STUDIO
BRATRI V TRIKU, founded in 1945, is the oldest and the largest
Czech producer of animated cartoons. Up to these days, more
than 1,600 titles of various styles and genres from two-minute
shorts to fully animated full-length cartoons have been produced
here. Renaissance man Jiri Trnka was one of the founders of
this Studio, but also other classic veterans of Czech animation,
such as Bretislav Pojar, Jiri Brdecka, Zdenek Miler, and others,
co-operated with the Studio. Among the present co-workers
of the Studio we can find names of such significant and world-famous
film makers as for example Michaela Pavlatovaand Pavel Koutsky
The Studio's artistic credo is to produce diversified animated
films, i.e. different styles, various artistic genres. One
can hardly find a creative execution, which the Studio and
its employees would not be able to produce. Humanism and sense
of intelligent humour, which is once lyrical and another time
close to satire, are the main characteristics of the Czech
animated cartoon film school.
The films on the 'Bratri v triku' label have been awarded
hundreds of prizes at international film festivals, such as
Grand Prix or Main Prizes from Berlin, Venice, Chicago, Annecy,
Hiroshima, Tampere, Espinho, Cannes, Stuttgart, Oberhausen,
Locarno, Ottawa, San Sebastian, Gijon and Montreal among others.
The films from this Studio have been nominated for Academy
Awards. The film "Munro" (1960) was the first Oscar
winner for the Studio.
Studio 'Bratri v triku' is a part of the joint-stock company
Studios of Animated Film. The Studio is engaged mainly in
the production of classic cartoons and series, but is also
able to produce combined films (live feature + animation),
as well as other special animation technologies, including
computer processing of cartoon animation. At present, the
Studio employs 35 persons in permanent employment and co-operates
with the foremost Czech script writers, creative artists and
composers. The average yearly production is 200-250 minutes
of cartoon animation. Mostly, the Studio works on commissioned
productions for television in the Czech Republic, the USA,
Holland, Germany and Great Britain. However, it also produces
its own films.
Studio 'Bratri v triku' is equipped with full technology for
cartoon film production, modern special-effect cameras, cutting
rooms, projection theatre and computer line test. The complete
cartoon film production is centred in the close proximity
to the Barrandov Film-processing Laboratories. Within the
framework of Kratky Film Praha a.s., the Studio provides complete
sound works and editing. It uses 35 mm film technology (Eastmancolor
Negative) with possible transfer of all used systems onto
video.
